Black Tuesday: UNM Won’t Reveal NIL Licensing Agreements
Revenue-sharing payments for some University of New Mexico student-athletes will begin Tuesday, but UNM is withholding details. Public records requests for specific NIL agreements were denied, and only redacted contract templates were released. UNM cites FERPA and trade secret protections under New Mexico’s public records law, following a nationwide trend of withholding NIL terms. Payments will be distributed via Teamworks General Manager. Agreements are single-year and allow for value increases based on exposure rather than direct performance incentives. Legal action may be required for transparency.
